In genreal, foods were ok, but a little bit below my expectation. Service and environment were not qualified to get Michelin 1-star

    definitely a go again choice.
the service is terrific, they manage the time perfectly. the time they start the cook, the time they deliver, the time they have waited for us ( we left pretty late, and they are just smiling)

the food is done by heart. everything is great.

The cuisine is nice but we felt not worth for HK$500 of the set. And for Chinese, the set menu is not special at all. We appreciate the soup, but the others are so-so. Simply to say, it was worse than our expectation. We are looking for the food, service and atmosphere, but not the brand. So, if just base on the first 3 criteria, it is not worth for that price.

I went to Yat Tung Heen with my husband and another couple on the evening of 22 Feb. Regretfully, I have to use this opportunity to let the HK Restaurant Week organization and the restaurant know that we were very disappointed and felt that we totally overpaid. We have actually been enjoying lunches and dinners at Yat Tung Heen once every few months or so over the past years with our respective families and friends. Yat Tung Heen has always been one of our favorite local Chinese restaurants because it offers good food and good value - and that's the reason I have booked us the table for Restaurant Week, furthermore, it was the only restaurant that I have signed up for this year.

The fact that we do go to Yat Tung Heen regularly has made last night's experience especially painful. We were surprised by the quality and selection of the menu, given the price tag of HKD 500 per person inclusive of service charge, and the fact that Restaurant Week was meant to be a platform for participating restaurants to showcase their best. For a HKD 2,000 meal for four at this particular restaurant, we expected quite a lot in terms of the quality of ingredients. In the end, each and every single dish that was presented last night was a disappointment, because we well know that what we'd typically get by ordering off the menu on any given day would have been much better in terms of the quality and value. Contributing to the problem was that the Chinese menu was misleading (the English description was more realistic) - "golden sand tofu", "crystal prawn", "superior vegetables"... And of all days, we had an episode of a little floating insect in one of our noodle soups to top things off...

Finally, when we tried to offer feedback to the so-called manager, his response was that the menu selection was done by the hotel side, which translated to "I'm sorry but please do not bark at the wrong tree here". All in all, we felt that Yat Tung Heen was generating negative publicity for itself by participating in the Restaurant Week with this menu and level of service. We had expectations because we are regulars of the restaurant, and because we actually liked the place for its food and value for money.

This was actually a pretty disappointing experience for us especially in terms of service and atmosophere - from the stained/ripped tablecloth, to the inconsistent pacing of the various courses, including a 20 minute wait between courses at one stage. The food itself was ok, but nothing special. We were so disappointed that I found myself second-guessing toward the end of dinner whether the restaurant really has a Michelin Star.
